How do I complete my identity verification?

Below is a step-by-step overview you can follow to submit your identity verification. Following these steps will ensure your identity verification is submitted correctly, so please be sure to read through each step carefully. You can find additional identity verification FAQs by clicking here.

 

When will I be asked to verify my identity?

You may asked to verify your identity during the tutor application process, but you may also be asked to verify your identity at other checkpoints, such as when you withdraw funds from your tutor account or to protect your account when we detect fraudulent activity.

 

How does Course Hero verify the identities of its tutors?

Course Hero uses a third-party ID verification service provider to verify the identities of our tutors on our behalf. The following information will be collected during this process to help verify your identity:

  • SMS verification

  • A government-issued ID

  • A selfie image

  • Your country location (based on your IP Address)

  • Device and browser information (that you use to perform your verification)

By providing information to our service provider, you consent to Course Hero collecting, using, and utilizing your biometric information to verify your identity, and detect and prevent fraud. You can revoke this consent at any time by emailing privacy@coursehero.com. 

 

How do I complete my identity verification?

When prompted by Course Hero to verify your identity via Persona, please complete the following steps:

  1. Please turn off your VPN if you are using one - you cannot complete the identity verification process with a VPN turned on - and click on the link indicated in the email.

  2. First, click “Begin verifying” to give consent for the collection of information to complete your identity verification:

  1. Next you will need to complete an SMS Verification. Please use the same phone number you used in the Course Hero application SMS verification. If you need additional help with your SMS verification, please click here.

  1. Next you will use the dropdown to select the country your government ID is issued from:

  1. Next you will select the type of government ID you want to use. You can’t use a passport.

  1. Next you will upload (1) a photo of the front of your government ID and (2) a photo of the back of your government ID. You will be given the choice to continue the verification process on another device, such as your smartphone. We strongly suggest you complete your verification on a smartphone, as the camera quality will ensure you do not encounter any image problems.

  1. Next you will take a selfie image of your face. You need to look straight into the camera, then turn slightly left, then turn slightly right. The selfie image should contain only your face and nothing else.

Your personal information will be safely processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy. The information you provide in your tutor application will be used to determine if you qualify as a tutor on Course Hero and as otherwise stated on our application form. Your information will never be used for any other purpose and will not be shared or made public without your consent.

 

Please note that only one tutor application is allowed per person and only one tutor account is allowed per person. Additionally, you can only use the Course Hero tutor account that is associated with your personal tutor application.

 

If you qualify and are approved as a tutor, you will act as an independent contractor and not an employee or agent of Course Hero. Given that our tutor community is dedicated to learning and teaching, and we require all tutors to uphold Course Hero’s Honor Code, Academic Integrity Policy, Copyright Policy, and Terms of Use at all times. Failure or refusal to uphold these policies at all times may result in permanent termination of your Course Hero tutor account and a ban on tutoring on Course Hero in the future.
